But what factors determine what type of bag you need to give your product a first-class experience during transport and storage? We’ll walk you through a checklist to give you a better idea of what to keep in mind.
The bag is all about the product. Here’s what factors to keep in mind.
Make sure you choose a bag that can safely carry the weight of the product you’re trying to transport. Think ahead!
This could determine what type of seams are good to use. If your product has an extremely small particle size, you will need extra tight seams, so the product doesn’t leak through it.
Is your product meant for food or feed? Make sure you choose a bag that has the right certifications.
During the filling process, some products might be sensitive and are flammable or combustible. Make sure you choose the right type (A, B, C or D) to keep your people and products safe.
The size and shape of the bag are important to keep in mind. Determine what the bag will look like when it’s filled, and how it will be stored. Will it stand on a pallet? Then this needs to be part of your calculations as well. We always start out with this simple calculation:
pounds of product/pounds per cubic feet=X cubic feet capacity for the bulk bag
Make sure the spout and top you choose for your bag match the machines you are using in your production facility. This has to be a perfect fit, to ensure that the filling can be done safely. If a standard fill spout won’t work for you, ask your supplier if a duffle or open top would be better, or a cone top with a fill spout. The bottom also matters: at some point, you’ll want to empty the bag – in a safe way. Your options for the bottom are spout, flat or tie-open.
For the finishing touch, it’s important that you tailor the bag exactly to your needs. These are small features, but shouldn’t be overlooked, because they can effectively speed up your processes and make handling the bags safer for your team.
