Pallets are a popular way to do that. Despite their chunky size, FIBCs are very versatile. But how do you choose the right pallet, and what are the secrets to great execution? Here’s what you need to know to make the most of your big bags and the available space you have in storage and transport when using pallets.
If you are looking into palletizing your bulk bags for transport, there are some important factors you need to consider. Benefits of putting your FIBC on pallets:
This only goes for bags who’ve been secured properly. If you fail to do so, safety plummets and handling the pallets or bags while unloading can become tricky.
With bands: using metal or plastic banding you can secure the load tightly, This does require manual labor (and power!).
With pallet wrap: with stretch wrap you can put the pallet and bag tightly together, preventing any shifting of the bag during transport. This is generally cheaper than using metal or plastic bags.
Bulk bags have square or rectangle bottoms, but after filling they can become a bit rounder. This is what you need to take into account when calculating how many pallets would fit.You want to prevent that the bag hangs over the pallet and loses its balance — and eventually loses the product. A standard pallet is 122 cm × 102 cm. While it might seem to be big enough for a standard FIBC, which is 34 inches (ca. 86 cm) square, a completely filled bag might go over the sides.
